Edward Short, Executive Director of CAVB

Chesterton Academy of Vero Beach is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Edward Short as Executive Director. Mr. Short is a seasoned Catholic leader and prolific author who brings a wealth of experience in institutional advancement, strategic development, and classical Catholic education to his new role at our Academy. He will be essential to our continued growth as a school.

Mr. Short most recently served as Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Catholic International University, where he played a key role in helping the fully online Catholic liberal arts university advance its highly innovative and faithful mission for the lifelong benefit of students worldwide. His distinguished career also includes successful tenures at The Schools of St. Mary in Manhasset, New York, the National Gianna Center in New York City, and Catholic Guardian Society in the Archdiocese of New York.

In addition to his extensive executive and fundraising background, Mr. Short is a renowned Catholic author and essayist. His published works include Newman and His Contemporaries (2011), Newman and His Family (2013), and, most recently, Newman and His Critics (2024), the third volume of his trilogy on Newman, which Bishop James Massa called a “gift for the whole Church.” Mr. Short also contributes frequently to such prestigious publications as City Journal, The Wall Street Journal, The Lamp, Literary Review (London), Catholic World Report, Human Life Review, and The New Criterion. Lord Roberts, Churchill’s biographer, called Mr. Short’s most recent collection of essays, What the Bells Sang, “brave,” “beautifully written,” and “wise.” All of Mr. Short’s written work reflects a deep commitment to the intellectual and spiritual legacy of the Church, especially her rich tradition of faith and reason.

A member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre and several Catholic literary societies, Mr. Short embodies the virtues of faith, scholarship, and service. He is also an experienced catechist and a dedicated supporter of Catholic religious communities.

In his new role, Mr. Short will partner with Dr. Jonathan Day, Headmaster, and the Board of Trustees to help steward and advance the mission and vision of Chesterton Academy of Vero Beach. Together, they will continue to foster a culture of classical learning, joyful faith, and heroic virtue among our students and families.

Please join us in welcoming Mr. Edward Short to our school community. We are confident that his leadership and dedication will help further our mission to raise up a new generation of joyful Catholic leaders and saints.
